Turn 5 Live Teams Up With Black Rock Speedway For 2015 Empire 100 Lap Sponsor Program

PENN YAN, NY – For Immediate Release – August 21st, 2015 – Turn 5 Live/PMN photo –

For the second year in a row, the cast from Turn 5 Live and local dirt track enthusiast Jon Stuart will work hand-in-hand with Black Rock Speedway.  The team consisting of Stuart, Clint Miller and Steven Ovens will once again collaborate in an effort to try and reach last year’s total of $3,602 in cash and certificates to be handed out to top running drivers in the 100-lap Street Stock fall classic.

For the price of $20- race fans, teams and officials can sponsor a lap out of the 100 laps that make up the Empire 100 paying $2,000 to the winner.  The lap sponsor dollars for each lap will be awarded to the driver running in one of the top seven running positions on that lap.

The leader takes the money on lap 1, second place on lap 2 until you get to lap 7.  On lap 7 the 7th place car gets the sponsor dollars, but on lap 8 it goes back to the top of the running order to the leader and down through position seven again.

This format saw 17 out of 27 drivers take home at least $20 in lap money or certificates.  In fact, the 27th place finishing driver Chuck Winslow took home $70 additional to his winnings by picking up two sponsored laps and a special award for the first Dundee regular out of the race.

The big winners in the lap money program were 2014 Empire 100 Champion Kurt Stebbins and Teddy Morseman.  Stebbins not only took home $2,000 for winning the race, he also won $542 in lap money and a $444 MRC Gift Certificate.  Morseman took home $481 in lap money, a $150 Potter Chassis Gift Certificate and a $444 MRC Gift Certificate.

Some other notable drivers that won significant lap money in 2014 was 9th place Brett Marlatt ($290), 13th place Butch Green ($273), 17th place Tyler Yeagle ($245) and 19th place finisher Jeremy Potrzebowski ($175).  It goes to show that the lap money won’t just go to the leader, it will go to the driver running at the right place at the right time.

“We adapted this idea from what we have seen Brett Deyo do with his Short Track Super Series shows,” said Turn 5 Live co-host Clint Miller.

“What Brett has done with his lap sponsor program gave us a lot of inspiration to make the Empire 100 at Black Rock that much sweeter.”

For Black Rock Promoter Mike Jackson, this will be his first time promoting Dutch Hoag National Open Weekend.  The additional funds built into the street stock race is welcomed by not only the promoter- but the racers as well.

“To walk into a system that Jon, Clint and Steven already have successfully put in place makes my job very easy to promote this great event,” Jackson said.

“If you’re a Street Stock driver in New York, there’s no reason not to come to Black Rock Speedway in October.  Our rules line up to allow practically any Street Stock in the area to compete, and to compete for money that is only on the line like this once a year.  You can’t go wrong when you look at last year’s last place finisher who took home $200 to start and even received $70 in lap money.”

Laps are available at $20 each and can be reserved by emailing pr@blackrockspeedway.com, or by messaging Stuart, Miller or Ovens on Social Media or by commenting/messaging the Black Rock Speedway Facebook page.  Laps will be doubled up once all 100 laps are sold out.

There are also contingency awards available to be sponsored such as:

-Hard Luck Award

-Hard Charger Bonus

-Move of the Race

-First Black Rock Speedway car across the line

-First Black Rock Speedway car out of the race

-Halfway Bonus

-Heat Winner Awards
