Mother Nature Claims Victory After Heat Races Completed at Black Rock

DUNDEE, NY – For Immediate Release – June 6th, 2015 –

It is truly a dirt track promoter’s worst nightmare.  The teams and drivers have arrived, the track is groomed, concessions ready with food on the grill- then it starts raining.  That was exactly the scenario on Friday night at the ‘Fast Four-Tenths-Mile’ as rain fell for 20-30 minutes around 6:30PM just as cars were hitting the track for hot laps.

Rain had been reported all day to the North and South of Dundee, NY but the speedway located in Southeast Yates County had yet to see any rain throughout the day.  Promoter Mike Jackson polled the drivers in the pit area and the drivers collectively decided they wanted to race.

Jackson and his track prep crew consisting of Brad Ovens and the Povoski brothers dug in and went to work on whipping the racing surface back into shape.  Assistance from the racers in attendance also helped get the track worked back in so that the first heat race could roll off the grid at 8:28PM.

All heat racing action and the Creekside Entertainment Bandit feature was completed before a very brief intermission to tidy up the bottom lane of the speedway.  As the M&M Auto Sales and Service IMCA Modifieds paced the track before their green flag, the skies opened up and a heavy downpour fell upon the grounds of Black Rock Speedway.  The decision was quickly made to postpone the features after it didn’t take long to lose the racing surface everyone worked so hard to get back.

“We hate to lose the rest of the program like that,” said Jackson afterwards.

“I’m proud of our staff, the drivers and especially the fans for not giving up on trying to put on a great show.  If that last storm hadn’t surfaced, we were looking at prime track conditions for the features.”

With the 5 features being washed out, they will be made up over the course of the next two Friday night races.  The 50/50 will be carried over to next Friday night June 12th.

The one feature that did race to the finish was the Creekside Entertainment Bandits who saw Brandon Kinner finally snap the winning streak of Jeff Daugherty.  Kinner was strong right off the trailer and cruised to his first victory of 2015 by leading all ten laps.  Daugherty closed in on Kinner late but had to settle for second while Billy Bowers, Pixie Kinner and ShiAnn Labar completed the top five.

The June 12th program will consist of a regular program without IMCA Modifieds, and now will include double features for the Modifieds, MRC Street Stocks and NAPA Know How 4 Cylinders.  Drivers are reminded that only drivers having taken part in the qualifying heat races will be eligible for racing in the makeup feature.

The Crate Sportsman and M&M Auto Sales and Service IMCA Modifieds will race double features on Jeff Searles Memorial Race Night Friday night June 19th presented by the Douglas B Miles Agency, Inc.

Racing action will kick off next Friday night at 7PM.  Grandstand admission is $12.00, while Senior Citizens, Active Military and youth ages 12-17 are $10.  Children under 12 years of age are always free of admission at the speedway.
