(DUNDEE, N.Y.) - Dirt track racing is something that is often family based, and relationships between father and son are strengthened through the mutual love for sports and hobbies. For the Sebring family, dirt track racing is exactly what brought father and son together.
29- year-old Scott Sebring, originally from Penn Yan, N.Y. started his racing career 6 years ago. His father raced 358 Modifieds for 30 years, and Sebring decided it was something he wanted to try for himself. He started out racing Street Stocks, and moved up to IMCA 3 years ago.
“The IMCA class was a new class to Black Rock at the time and my dad and I thought it would be a fun class to run,” Sebring stated when asked why he decided to move up.
Sebring finds motivation through the natural adrenaline rush he gets from being on the track. His father is the reason that he gets back behind the wheel each week, as he is responsible for a majority of the work done on the car.
Sebring explained in a recent interview, “I was not and still am not the most mechanically inclined person when it comes to working on cars. Growing up, I took my dads mechanical savviness for granted. Looking back on it I wish I spent more time with him and paid attention to what he was doing.”
Sebring sees every Friday as another chance to hang out with his dad and make him proud. This past Friday, July 15th Scott Sebring captured his first feature win of his career.
“It feels amazing! I have wanted to get a win for my dad ever since we have started racing!” Sebring explained. “He works so hard to get the car ready every week and to show him his hard works pays off is a great feeling.”
Sebring spends as much time as he can outside of the track with his wife and their 7-month-old daughter, as well as working as the assistant manager at Wal-Mart in Webster. After an exciting win last Friday night, he is looking forward to what the rest of this season has in store.
