Black Rock’s “Rock Launcher 2010” Straight Ahead

Rich Vleck, DUNDEE, NY (March 28, 2010)- With the mall show now completed, the snow melted and April just around the corner, it is time for racing to get underway in New York State. For the good part of this millennium, New York’s season launcher has been the “Rock Launcher” in Dundee.

Black Rock Speedway will host two nights of action-packed racing, April 9 and 10 at Yates County’s Fastest Family Fun Site. Many of the familiar divisions are part of the excitement, with a few wrinkles, along with some new classes taking part.

Friday, April 9, is much more than just a practice night as a pair of big shows will be part of the docket. The sportsman division will get their season underway with a challenge race between the crate and open motored sportsman modifieds. This is termed an “open tire” event, which should help to spice things up. The winner of this first event of the year will earn the 5th place starting spot for the final race of 2010 on November 6.

The Trackside Pure Stock Tour will make their Inaugural visit to BRS on the Friday Night opener. The term “Pure Stock” may be new to Black Rock Fans, but the top runners will not be as many feature winners of the street stock divisions will be challenging for top honors.

There will also be multiple opportunities for any interested race team to hit the speedway on Friday Night for their first test and tune of 2010. All divisions are welcome. Practice will begin at 6:00 p.m.

After a quick night of rest, racing will get back under green flag conditions on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Black Rock’s 4 weekly classes of car will be in competition; but with a number of their “friends” invading this will hardly be a regular night at BRS.

The DIRTcar Sportsman Tour will once again kick off their season in Dundee. The wildly popular division always has tight racing wherever it goes, but on the tight confines of Black Rock, things are always unpredictable.

The BRP CanAm Late Model tour will again have a major presence at BRS in 2010. Just like in 2009, Black Rock will host the series’ season opener for a non-points open event. This serves as an ideal way to give teams ready to go an opportunity to race before having to worry about points which start up in late May.

The street stock division should have high car counts all season, and the special event part of this Saturday Spring Special should be no different. The same can be said for the 4-cylinder division that continues to put on some great racing.

An enduro will also be part of the program, awarding a top starting spot in the $10,000 Big One Enduro. It will all make for a great day of action, which will get underway at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, April 11 will serve as a raindate for the Saturday program if necessary. Points races will begin on Friday, April 23 and the ASCS Patriots will round April on the 30th for their season opener, presented by Abtex Corp.
