Black Rock Cancels Friday Night Prelim, Saturday Still Ready to Launch
The first race in New York State for 2009 will have to wait one day extra as the prelim and practice to the Rock Launcher has been cancelled.
With a terrible forecast for Friday and with no need to mess with a remodeled racetrack, the decision was made on Thursday to focus on the important task at hand, the Rock Launcher 09 on Saturday, which is still on.
The practice portion of the originally scheduled Friday Night program will not be rescheduled. Also on the card was a Ladies 4-Cylinder Challenge, which has been rescheduled for May 1.
The highlight of the Friday Night program was to be a $1,000-to-win Crate Sportsman, Open Tire Rule. This race will now be made up on April 17 to kick off the Doris Hoag Memorial $5,000 Crate Sportsman Dual Series Point Fund.
Starting with that $1,000-to-win show, the first 8 races of the year, along with the final 3, will be tabulated in a mini-series that will reward the driver with the most points with $1,000.
Starting on June 12, the Sportsman Division will be run under DIRTcar Rules, using their mandated tires. The 12 races to close out the regular season will also have a $1,000 bonus going to the driver with the most points in those events.
The money will still be a plenty for all of the regulars, as a $3,000 point fund has been established for the top-10 in the overall 2009 standings. All champions will be honored at the Black Rock Speedway Banquet in January of 2010.
Action is ready to roll on Saturday, April 4, for Rock Launcher 09. The Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Tour kicks their season off with a $2,000-to-win event, which will include time trials. The BRP CanAm Late Models and Street Stocks will both run for $1,000-to-win, with time trials being used for either division if there are more than 30 cars. NYMM, Xcel 600 Mods, RWD 4cyl and the first $1,000-to-win Enduro is also on the card. Hot Laps begin at 10:00 a.m. with grandstands opening at 11:00 a.m. Time trials will begin around 11:30 a.m. with the first green flag for heats starting at 1:00 p.m.
