Insinger Race Fuels NY Nationals Highlights Major Program On NASCAR Night at Black Rock

Things get wild in the Finger Lakes this weekend and Black Rock will get right in on the fun as a number of the stars from the NASCAR world will be on hand to join in on the fun Friday Night in Dundee.

One dollar from every ticket sold and 50% of the 50/50 raffle will be shared by two charities. Milly’s Pantry in Penn Yan and Motor Racing Outreach (MRO) have been selected by Dean Hoag, the owner of Black Rock Speedway, as a way of sharing with those in need.

“I have recently learned of the great work that Milly’s Pantry in doing and cannot image there is a more worthwhile charity project in Yates County. Milly’s “Back Pack Program” to help ensure that meal assistance kids have food for the weekend during the school year and the “Summer Food Program” which provides lunch during the summer school vacation period are certainly very worthwhile projects. If we can help them we will. I am sure that when the NASCAR guys hear of this they will be very supportive,” shared Hoag in a recent interview.

“Bob Dillner (of the Speed Channel) and Matt Dillner (of ESPN) have helped us with our NASCAR Night for the past couple of years. They work with the NASCAR Sprint and Nationwide race teams all season long. For our NASCAR Night at Black Rock Speedway they bring many of those folks to Black Rock for a celebrity race in our Enduro cars. In addition, the NASCAR drivers will have a Meet & Greet Autograph Session. Heck, last year Tony Stewart even brought his own sprint car to race. Not in the celebrity’s race, but to race with guys like Chuck Hebing, Tim Kelly, Bubby Kerrick, and Lance Yonge in an ASCS Patriots race. We never know what Tony will do from one year to the next, but he has become a regular here on our NASCAR Night. We have enduro cars for a celebrity race, which is the most fun event of the night. Not serious racing, but a lot of fun. All of this is a way for us to contribute to Motor Racing Outreach and this year we have added Milly’s Pantry as a local charity. This is annually a great fun night and a fan favorite. We hope to pack the place so that we can write both Milly’s and Motor Racing Outreach big checks.”

Bill Mauldin, President and CEO of Motor Racing Outreach reports from his Charlotte, NC office, “From the moment we got to Black Rock Speedway last year we had a wonderful time. The racing was exciting and with all of the activities and great food my kids thought that they were at a county fair. MRO is extremely thankful to Dean Hoag and the entire Black Rock Speedway staff for providing such a fun filled night and the financial benefit to MRO and our children’s ministry.”

In addition to the NASCAR celebrities having fun at Black Rock Speedway, the area’s #1 dirt track, the real deal for race fans on Friday August 7 will be a BRP CanAm Late Model Series program and an ASCS Patriots sprint car program. If that isn’t enough there will be features only for Black Rock’s street stock and four cylinder cars.

The most frequented spot in Patriot History, BRS will also be the first of six tracks to host a second full-point Lucas Oil ASCS Patriot events this season. The difference this time around is that the winner will walk away with a cool $4,000.

This will be the 11th running of the Insinger NY Nationals, an event that used to be known as the “Bully Hill Fall Sprint Nationals” and has been transformed to August to align with the NASCAR event 12 miles down the road at Watkins Glen International.

Last season, the winner picked up $5,000, but for the 2009 edition, $1,000 has been taken off the top and spread through the top-five. With extra money for the first five across the line, including $1,500 for second and $1,000 for third, this race has also been increased to a 30-lap event.

Back in May, Bobby Breen picked up the win at the sight of his first career sprint win back in 2004. The 2004 Black Rock Sprint Rookie of the Year held off Trevor Lewis in an epic duel. Lewis, who won his last time with the Patriots at Cayuga County, has two career $4,000 wins in this event back in 2004 and 2005.

Justin Barger became $5,000 richer after taking the win in this race last August. Barger battled with Chuck Hebing that night, and “The Cobra” would love nothing more than to get this win this time around.

Among some of the other competitors that have won at Black Rock include Lance Yonge, from nearby Penn Yan, Blake Breen, Tim Kelly, Gordy Button and Dan Kaszubinski.

Jessica Zemken will make her return after motor problems on Friday along with Kyle Moffit and Jared Fink. Some of the BRS locals expected to be there include Jeff Frasier, Bruce DeWick and Mike Stelter.

The car count very well could eclipse the season high set in the last A-Verdi King of CNY Event at Cayuga County. The intensity level will also be captured throughout the night by the Hot Wings TV cameras to be displayed later this year.

Along with the sprints, the BRP CanAm Late Models return headstrong with action that is sure to excite. Larry Knowles won a $1,000-to-win Late Model event at BRS earlier this year and fresh off a win at Utica-Rome is now the series point leader.

Dale Welty has narrowly retaken the top spot in the Freedom Village USA Late Model Standings for 2009. Dave DuBois, the defending track champion, gave up his advantage this past week but is as fierce as ever in his No. 012.

Jeff Chesebro and Steve Dixon lead some of the elite drivers on the tour. A very large field is expected to be on hand to please the fans on Friday Night.

The micro sprints, sportsman, street stocks, 4-cylinders, Ladies and Bandits are all of the regular divisions also on the card. Only the micro sprints will be running heats of this group. A $1,000-to-win enduro will also be part of the show to conclude the festivities.

Black Rock Speedway is located on Route 14A at the south gate to the Village of Dundee. The gates will open at 5:00 with racing to start at 6:45. Information at www.BlackRockSpeedway.com
