Dart Machinery Freedom Open Set to Go For Friday at Black Rock

Rich Vleck, Dundee, NY, (June 15, 2009)- The final Friday before a week off comes this weekend at the Black Rock Speedway as they will host the DART Industries Freedom Open for 360 Late Models. This $1000-to-win, $100 to start special event marks the mid-season of weekly events at the Yates County Powerplant.



After nine late model events seven different drivers have found their way to BRS’s Victory Lane. On Friday night at least 20 other drivers hope to add their name to the winners list. BRS winners to date are Dale Welty (twice), Jeremy Wonderling (twice), Bob Buono, Dave DuBois, Greg Galligan, Rich Karlnoski and Brady Wonderling.



Missing from the winners list is Mikey Wonderling. This second generation racer from the Wonderling racing family of Scio, NY hopes to turn his luck around with a $1000 pay day for Sharon and Jim Schuyler’s Himrod Hot Rod Race Team. The team’s home track is BRS where they scored their most recent win last November, which also netted $1,000.



Dave DuBois, the defending BRS Late Model Champion, and Dale Welty are tied for the BRS point lead going into the mid-season break. Former BRS Champions that must be considered legitimate contenders for the $1000 top spot are Larry Knowles, Quinn Sutherland, and Jeremy Wonderling. In addition, Bob Buono, winner of last Friday night’s late model feature, hopes to ride his high for a repeat win this week.



In addition to the past champions and those that have already won, the list of leading contenders that must be considered in the mix for DART Industries Freedom Open win are Dan Cobb, Steve Dixon, and Glenn Whritenour. Cobb has placed second twice in three 2009 BRS starts and both of those fine finishes were from the back. Dixon will be coming to BRS after an impressive win at Little Valley Speedway last Saturday. Glenn Whritenour, the defending Woodhull Raceway Champion, raced at BRS last week as a test-tune-tinker session in preparation for Friday night’s DART Open.



A procedure change for this event is that the open draw and redraw procedure of the BRP CanAm Series will be used as opposed to the handicap procedure. This change will be in effect for the balance of the 2009 season. The event is not a BRP CanAm Series tour event, but will be included in the mix for the Series Championship via BRS home track bonus points program.
