Godfather Race and Lake-to-Lake Sportsman Challenge Kick of August Friday at Black Rock

DUNDEE, NY – A week after the first rainout in 16 events, the Black Rock Speedway returns to action this Friday with some Italian flavor and some serious racing.

Lakeside Lanes, along with Colacino Electric, present the Godfather Race, featuring media members from around the Finger Lakes racing 4-cylinder enduros around the 4/10-mile. These will not be the only celebrities racing on Friday, so too will a set of the best bowlers on the planet.

Doug Kent of Newark recently won the PBA Bowlers Championship and returns to the dirt on Friday to battle with his bowling buddies Parker Bohn III and Ryan Shaffer in the 4th Annual Bowler’s Challenge. Knowing the way these guys drive- their cars will likely need some spare parts.

Another major feature of the Friday Night action will be the first of four races in the Leaf Racewear Lake-to-Lake Sportsman Challenge. This series involves a pair of races at both Black Rock and Canandaigua, with the top-five in points splitting up a $1,000 point fund. There will also be a Leaf Racewear Firesuit given to a random driver that competes in all four events. All of these races will be an open draw and worth show-up points only for Black Rock competitors.

Paul Guererri leads the points at Canadaigua, just ahead of fellow Geneva resident Dan Weisner. Those names, along with the likes of Tim Currier and Eric Guigere should be on hand to battle with the best Black Rock has to offer.

Todd Henderson returned with a vengeance in the Hoselton Automotive Crate Sportsman two weeks ago, but the point battle is on between three drivers. Even though points will remain the same, still leading is Brady Fultz by 13 points over Justin Wright. The new driver in the mix is Daryl Hilkert, who is only 15 back, fresh off a runner-up showing on Friday.

After the first leg of the Black Rock/ Woodhull Street Stock Challenge this past Saturday, the finale takes place this Friday in Dundee to add to the fun of the full card.

The inaugural season of the Black Rock/ Woodhull Street Stock Challenge is halfway home, with Black Rock regulars Rich Sharpsteen I and Frank Chapman Jr. headlining the event at Woodhull. They are likely to lead the competition for the Championship Honors this Friday.

While they are always strong at Black Rock, it was Darl Ellis Jr. who made the last lap pass on Chapman last Friday Night. Ellis gave up the ride to his dad on the first night so will not contend for the challenge title but should once again be a factor.

A pair of super stock races on Freedom Village USA night saw locals Quinn Sutherland and Bob Buono each take a checkered flag. Jeremy Wonderling struggled in the second feature and now finds himself tied with Quinn Sutherland atop the standings. Wonderling and Sutheralnd are the last two series champions.

Terry Povoski won his eighth straight Regional Truck Pro Truck race, including heat races two weeks ago. He now commands the point standings by 39 points over Chris Leroux.

Chris McCann won his second feature of the year in the Signs Plus of Kanona 4-Cylinder division and has helped to close the gap on Del Cummings in the standings. Remember that Derrick Mills is second in points but will be joining the Navy before the season is over, forcing him to miss the final four events.

Tom Austin Jr. won yet again Friday in the Bandits and now has a 40-point advantage on Dylan Cecee.

Along with all of that action, there will also be lady 4-cylinder feature. Last week’s street stock/ pro truck lady race saw Jamie Schuyler score the win; she will likely be in the mix in this show as well.

After the racing is over, Doug Kent’s Bowling Center in Penn Yan will be open for late night specials for all race fans. It is sure to be a fun-filled night.

The fourth bicycle will also be given away on the night. Racing action begins promptly at 6:45 p.m., with adult general admission just $10.
