Driver Profile: Brad Smith #76 Farmers Insurance IMCA Modified

(DUNDEE N.Y.) – Outlaw Speedway is the Friday night destination for the Farmers Insurance IMCA Modified No. 76 driver, Brad Smith. He hauls from Troy, PA every Friday night to compete in Dundee.
Outlaw isn’t the only place Smith pilots his No. 76 IMCA Modified. Saturday nights he is at Skyline Speedway in Cortland, NY and he also travels with the IMCA Empire State Series. On rainouts, he doesn’t just take a night off. Smith will travel all the way to Maryland or even Ohio just to find a race.
Smith’s passion for racecars started in high school. He had neighbors who owned racecars, and being a teenager without an iPhone or Internet to entertain himself with, Smith found himself more and more intrigued by the racecars next door. Hearing the roar of their engines from his own house sparked his interest, and resulted in him helping work on his neighbors’ cars as well as go to the track with them for every race.
Smith started racing with a variety of different cars; from Street Stocks, Pure Stocks to Late Models, he even was involved in a Go-Kart class for several years. From this experience, there isn’t much about any class that Smith doesn’t know a little something about.
At one point in his career, Smith decided to sell all of his racing stuff, and he took a few years off. But his passion and desire for racing wouldn’t let him stay away, and he got back into it with his IMCA modified shortly after.
Before deciding on his IMCA, Smith got a great education on the class from his friends who drove them, as well as did his own research, and it made him more confident that this was where he wanted to be. He is now in his 4th year in the IMCA class.
When it comes to improving before each race, Smith says it all comes down to tire prep and maintenance. With a second place finish on May 27th,and a third place finish on June 4th, he was asked in a recent interview what he can do to get over the hump and get into victory lane?
He replied, “Until I park it in victory lane, I guess there’s always more work to be done, making it faster, making it better.”
Smith has a victory this season at Skyline and looks to soon add Outlaw Speedway to that list! Race fans can see Smith and the rest of the Farmers Insurance IMCA Modifieds compete Friday nights throughout the rest of the Summer.
