Outlaw Speedway Makes Large Investment For Brand New Surface In 2017

(DUNDEE, N.Y.) – Outlaw Speedway owner and promoter Tyler Siri knew when he purchased the ‘Fast Four-Tenths-Mile’ in early 2016, that one item that needed attention in the short-term was the racing surface.

It had been well over a decade since the speedway located in Yates County had seen fresh, new, rock-free clay. As the speedway went through several seasons of turnover at the Promoter level, it wasn’t financially advisable to the previous two promoters to invest in new clay for the racetrack without an assured future at the speedway.

So when Siri took over in 2016, the track was on his short list of immediate fixes- it just couldn’t happen in time for the 2016 season.

“We just didn’t have enough time to try and attempt this for the 2016 season,” said Siri. “I’ve wanted to do this from the get go, and we worked some new clay in here and there, but this track needed what we have given it as far as the surface goes.”

In lieu of having the time to completely resurface the entire track prior to 2016, Siri went to work on the physical nature of the property. He expanded the camping and parking area. His team cleaned up the scrap that littered the facility on both the South and East ends of the property.

Buildings and the historic covered grandstand were resided and new graphics with the Outlaw logo could be found all over the facility. With many of the superficial appearance items checked off the list, and a season of teams and fans showing patience with what surface Siri inherited- 2017 will see a completely new surface that should provide some of the most exciting racing in New York State.

Siri invested $70,000 to bring in 308 truckloads of New York State approved, rock-free clay to cover the four-tenths-mile facility. The banking in both corners has changed with the addition of the new clay. That will usher in a new era of racing at Outlaw Speedway without yuke tires, to the pleasure of many of Outlaw Speedway’s competitors.

The amount of clay added to the track was so great that the Outlaw team will be addressing the front stretch wall as the new surface shortened the height of the concrete barrier. Siri and the track prep team report that the clay worked in great as they prepared the surface for Winter.

Outlaw Speedway is located at 82 Main St in Dundee, NY and holds dirt track racing weekly on Friday nights from mid-April through Labor Day Weekend in September. The speedway also hosts special events on the grounds with special races run during the fall months of September and October. A new era is being ushered in for 2016 as Tyler Siri takes over ownership of the Yates County oval nestled in the heart of the Finger Lakes.
