RUGGLES, HILTON, SHARPSTEEN, KARLNOSKI, DUDLEY, KNOWLES AND TEED ALL VICTORIUS ON OPENING NIGHT AT THE ALL NEW YATES COUNTY SPEEDWAY ON ABTEX CORPORATION NIGHT.

Dundee, New York…. Canandaigua, New York driver Daryl Ruggles was the first to find victory lane at the new Yates County Speedway in the CRSA 305 Sprint Car feature.  Fran Hilton, Rich Sharpsteen, Rich Karlnoski, Jason Knowles, Trevor Dudley and Allison Teed were all victorious on Abtex Corporation Night.
 
Ruggles started in the fourth position in his number 48jr. Sprint Car, and by the midway point was putting on a serious challenge for the race lead. Bill Jaycox led the charge for the opening 8 laps, before a turn two pass found Ruggles the new race leader. As Jaycox fell back to second, Ruggles would open an impressive margin enroute to the victory.  Coming across the stripe in third was Jeremy Quick followed by Jordan Thomas and John Preston.  Ruggles was outspoken in his praise of the racing surface.  “ I have raced here in a lot of different classes over the years and this is the best I have ever seen this track”. 
 
Racing veteran Fran Hilton was victorious in the Crate Sportsman division on Abtex Corporation night. In the early stages of the race, Hilton had faded back to second after initially starting on the pole. Josh Keesey would grab the lead on the first circuit and lead the opening 11 laps, until Hilton came back up to battle for the spot. On lap 12 Hilton would make the pass to claim the race lead.
 
Hilton began to pull away from the field until lap traffic became heavy towards the midway point of the event. By lap 18, veteran driver Ray Bliss was up to second and putting on a great battle with Hilton for the lead as the two raced through heavy lapped traffic. The caution would come out on lap 20 leaving a clear track in front of the leaders for the remaining 5 laps. In the closing laps Hilton would prove to be the faster car as he pulled away to claim the opening night win. Hilton would win over Bliss, Keesey, Brady Fultz and Chris Daugherty. Six through ten would go to Chris Silvers, Loren Lincoln, Casey Pavlick, Phil Yaw, and Chris Fisher.
 
In the IMCA modifieds, the win would go to Rich Karlnoski in his number 55x car. Young Troy, Pennsylvania driver Jared Spalding would lead the initial 5 laps after taking the lead from his second place starting spot on the first lap. By lap 6, Karlnoski had moved up to challenge Spalding for the race lead, and it would be Karlnoski who would grab the lead on the 6th circuit. Karlnoski would lead the final 15 laps on his way to the victory over Spalding, Chris Flemming, Todd Stone, and Bruce Tinsley. The exciting race ran green to checkers.
 
Rich Sharpsteen found victory lane in the Greg’s Auto Body 20 lap Street Stock main event. Sharpsteen took the lead on lap 5, while Chuck Winslow would challenge him for much of the race. Sharpsteen however proved to be the faster car utilizing the inside of the speedway to claim the $500 victory.  Winslow would hold on for second, Kurt Stebbins would finish third, fourth went to Jeremy Potrzebowski, and Cory Costa would round out the top 5.
 
Jason Knowles would lead 19 out of 20 laps to claim the BRP/Crate Late Model feature win. Jason’s brother Brian Knowles would come up to finish second, while Bill Mesler was third, Adam DePuy fourth, and Brad Mesler would round out the top five.
 
Trevor Dudley would lead wire to wire in the 4 cylinders, getting the win over Scott Bradley, Bobby Teed, Chad Ayers, and Del Cummings.
 
The Bandit win went to Allison Teed, over Chris Davis, and Desiree Force.
 
RACE NOTES: This was the first event under new Promoter Dan Harpell…Drivers were raving about the track surface. The track was in awesome condition, table top smooth from top to bottom…Dale Welty won the drawing for the American Racer Cup tire gift certificate…The next event on the schedule is the Northeast Showdown on Tuesday, May 13th for the Race of Champions Dirt Modified Series.  They will be joined by the Crate Sportsman on the card.
