Patriot Sprint Tour and United Racing Company Battle for $4,000 A-Verdi Sprint Nationals on MRO Celebrity Night at Black Rock This Friday.

Rich Vleck, DUNDEE, NY, (August 5, 2013)- It is time for Black Rock’s showcase event.

This Friday, August 8, Black Rock Speedway will host its 6th Annual MRO Celebrity Night presented by, S.P. Wilson Lakes Gas, A-Verdi Storage Containers and M&W Aluminum Products.  The event is headlined by a 360 sprint car battle between Patriot Sprint Tour (PST) and United Racing Company (URC) Competitors as well as the annual celebrity match race.

The list of drivers to win the August sprint car event are a whose-who in the sprint car world and beyond, as was the case when Tony Stewart dominated the $4,000-to-win A-Verdi Sprint Nationals.

Justin Barger put on quite a performance back in May to win on the series’ 10-year anniversary but has been shut out since then. Along with Barger, Bryan Howland and Jared Zimbardi also have wins on tour this season, as well as career wins at Black Rock.  Defending PST America Champion Scott Kreutter also has a win this year, but has yet to grace Black Rock Victory Lane.

The local drivers will have plenty of competition coming from the Mid-Atlantic States. J.J. Grasso leads the URC standings 11 races in to their season.  Grasso was victories at Black Rock back in 2011, and will need another great performance to hold back Josh Weller, Davie Franek and Brian Carber who are chasing him for the points lead.  Randy West was an impressive second last year and is fifth in the standings, just ahead of Chad Trout, who scored his first series win at Lincoln this past weekend.

Unfortunately, one popular name that will be sorely missed this weekend will be that of Kramer Williamson. The legendary driver passed away Sunday after succumbing to injuries caused in an accident on Saturday.  It will certainly cast a somber tone across Friday’s race action.

Each of Black Rock’s weekly classes will also be in competition, but will be running features only on an open draw format.  Donnie Lawson is still atop the sportsman standings, but leads Brady Fultz by just 29 points now after Fultz swept the features last Friday Night.

Bruce Miller sits just one point ahead of John waters in the Late Model Standings, with brothers Brian and Jason Knowles still within reach, along with local favorite Jared Hill.

Jeremy Potzrebowski has opened up a healthy advantage in the street stock class, but the same can not be said for Rich Karlnoski, who leads the IMCA Modified standings, but by just four points over Jake Maynard and Phil Yaw.

All three 4-cylinder divisions will also run under a features-only format, along with the annual celebrity match race in sportsman. Racing action will kick off early at 6:45 P.M. on Friday.  For more information, visit
